Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

❓ Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

📝 Registration

  • When does registration open and close? Registration typically opens in January and closes in March. Check the [Registration Info] tab for exact dates.
  • How do I register my child? You can register online through our website under the “Register to Play” page.
  • What documents are required? Proof of age (birth certificate) and proof of residency or school enrollment are required.

⚾ Player Eligibility

  • What ages can play Little League? Players ages 4–16 are eligible, depending on division (3 - 4 years of age eligible for Early Learners). Use the official Little League Age Chart to determine your child’s league age.
  • Can girls play? Absolutely! Little League is open to all children.
    • What if we live outside the league boundary? Contact the league for waivers or boundary exceptions.
    • Can my child play in an older division if they have advanced skills? We understand that some players may demonstrate skills beyond their age group and wish to be considered for a higher division. If you'd like to request a "play up" placement, please indicate this in the special request section of the registration form.

    However, please note:

    • Limited play-up requests are granted, as our experience shows that most players benefit more from competing in their age-appropriate division.
    •  NELL reserves the right to reassign players to a different division than requested. This may be done for reasons including safety, team balance, individual development, player numbers, and the overall well-being of the league.

💵 Costs & Equipment

  • What is the registration fee? Fees vary by division. See the Registration Info page for current rates.
  • What equipment does my child need? Players should have a glove. Helmets and team uniforms are provided.
  • Are scholarships available? Yes, financial assistance is available. Contact us for details.

🧑‍🤝‍🧑 Volunteering

  • How can I volunteer? Sign up through the “Coaches & Volunteers” page.
    • Our league runs on the support of parents and community members, and there are many ways to get involved! Here are some common opportunities:
      • Concession Stand – Help serve food and drinks during games.
    • Dugout Parent – Assist coaches by keeping players organized and ready during games.
    • Coaching – Lead a team and teach players skills, sportsmanship, and teamwork.
    • Assistant Coaching – Support the head coach with practices, drills, and game management.
    • Scorekeeping – Keep track of runs, outs, and stats during games.
    • Field Prep – Help maintain fields by raking, chalking lines, and setting up equipment.
    • Umpiring – Officiate games, ensure fair play, and help teach players respect for the rules.
  • Do volunteers need background checks? Yes, all volunteers must complete a Little League background check.
  •  Do I have to volunteer? Our league is powered by volunteers, and we truly rely on families to help keep things running smoothly. While volunteering is not mandatory, every family is asked to contribute through a work bond:

    • At the start of the season, each family pays a $50 work bond.
    • If you volunteer at least 3 hours during the season (hours do not need to be consecutive), your bond will be returned at the end of the season.
    • If you choose not to volunteer, your bond will be kept by the league to support operations.
    • Whether you help in the concession stand, assist with field prep, or lend a hand at events, your time makes a big difference. Volunteering is a great way to be part of the community and support your player’s experience.

📅 Practices & Games
  • When are practices scheduled? Practices usually begin in early April. Coaches will provide specific schedules.
  •  Where are games played? Games are held at our local fields. Locations are listed on the “Schedules” page.

🏆 Beyond the Season
